A Little About Me

Hi! My name is Dewi. I am a Gemini, 30-something Indonesian currently living in Helsinki, Finland. I am an accountant by education, though I choose to venture out of my past profession and start my own yoga-inspired jewelry company to channel my love for yoga, arts and jewelries! I love knitting, cooking, baking and traveling, and to find moments of grounding and peacefulness through my daily practice of yoga and pranayama.

“We go through the breath to channelize the behavior of the mind (citta vrtti)” – O.P Tiwari . The second phrase of the Patanjali Yoga Sutra, yogaś-citta-vr̥tti-nirodhaḥ (PYS 1.2), states that the purpose of yoga is to channelize the fluctuation of the mind. It is said that the behavior of the mind is closely related to the behavior of the breath and thus, if we can control the breath, we should eventually be able to control the fluctuation of the mind. To go beyond the mind and to achieve the state of balance, joyfulness and happiness. . Why is it so important to control the mind? Our mind is a very powerful “machine” that when allowed to run free, may create chaos in our perspective of life. I always like to think of the mind as a thin layer of glass that lies in between the Self and the World. When the glass is not smooth, our perspective of the world is distorted. When the glass is smooth, it will become an invisible layer through which we can see the world in a crystal clear perspective. . A distortion created by the mind is mostly caused by the fluctuation of thoughts running freely inside our head, like continuous waves that disturb the calm surface of the ocean. They act on fear, worry, anger, sadness, and other kinds of human emotions that affect the way we perceive things, triggering certain reactions, negative or positive. My teacher, OP Tiwari always said that “The problem is not in the mind. Mind is the problem” and thus, the more we are able to control and go beyond the mind, the less trouble we will have in life. Having the ability to quiet the mind will give us the power to see the world clearly, and to become less reactive to the daily situations. With a calm and controlled mind, we will be able to see and process a situation before we react, eliminating fear, doubt, worry and other negative emotions that surrounds us every single day. . These 90 minutes Introduction to Pranayama session is designed to introduce the Blue-Print of Breathing, which is the yogic method of breathing used in the practice of pranayama. The participants will be guided through a series of breathing exercises and simple pranayama, ending with a short sitting meditation practice if the time allows. Through this short introduction session, we hope to connect you to your own breath and to explore the potential benefits of a simple art of correct pranayamic breathing, allowing you to practice at your own time. Show Up. Be Present. Fall in Love. . This beautiful hardwood floor have seen many people, spanning over unknown time and decades. Their imperfections gives away their stories, each cracks and splits luring us to touch it, tracing every line lovingly, begging them to tell us what they’ve seen and been through before our time. The moment I stepped into this room, I feel love. I wanted to lie down on the floor, embracing the warmth coming from the imperfect surface, placing my ear down and try to listen to the whispering sound coming from each lines, each cracks, each unknown tales waiting to be made known. Each moment will unfold when the time comes. Each pain will resurface before it disappears. Each story will give away the secret of the past. Just like us, we come with our pain, past and imperfection. And in this moment, within the 90 minutes that we allow ourself to let go, unfold and maybe disappear, we find ourself among the chaos of our own past and stories. Can we let them go? . A Moment before I Fall - Handstand has always been a struggle for me, especially for the past 1,5 years. But today, after a super fun Power and Core Class at @stillyogasg with San, I felt a little bit stronger than before. So I decided to give this a try. Somehow it felt lighter, and with a little bit more push and courage, I was able to balance for 2-3 seconds, giving Juha ( the Instagram Hubby ) enough time to take a snap shot! There are many things in life that you cannot describe. It can only be felt. Getting back to teaching - after a long break, it feels good to be back to sharing about the practice and benefit of pranayama. I thought that maybe I have forgotten how to teach after the past few months of life changing experiences, moving to a different country, settling down, finding a new home and all... but with focus, everything returns so effortlessly.. I may have struggle to find the words to explain things clearly from time to time, but it feels really good to be able to share the practice again.
